CHP Officer Scott Merryman Injured in Junction City Collision
JUNCTION CITY, CA (November 6, 2019) — CHP Officer Scott Merryman sustained major injuries after his vehicle collided with a logging truck on Monday.
The collision happened on Highway 299 at about 2:00 p.m. east of Power House Road.
The 46-year-old Merryman was eastbound while working on a speed enforcement detail when he spotted an oncoming speeding vehicle. He then made a U-turn to make an enforcement stop. However, he was struck on the driver’s side by a loaded logging truck that was eastbound behind the patrol vehicle.
Merryman suffered major injuries. First responders transported him to Mercy Medical Center in Redding. On the other hand, the driver of the logging truck complained of pain in his knees after the collision.
Merryman works with the CHP Trinity River area office. The Northern Division Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is conducting the investigation. Preliminary findings indicated that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash.
