Fatal Semi-Truck Collision on I-20 in Ector County Claims One Life, Leaves Another Injured
Ector County, TX (October 26, 2024) On Sunday morning, 68-year-old Scott Allen Burgess, of Shelby, NC died in a horrific collision on I-20.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the fatal crash happened at about 11 a.m. on Interstate 20 westbound, near mile marker 104.
DPS says that the fatal semi-truck collision, led to the death of one person and left another injured.
Officials reported that 60-year-old Gregory Lee Dills also from Shelby, North Carolina, was driving a 2024 International Truck and sustained injuries. Dills was taken to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, where he remains in stable condition. Sadly, his passenger, Burgess was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash took place as the International Truck, traveling behind a 2022 Freightliner with a trailer driven by 66-year-old John Collingsworth Jr. from Canton, Texas, experienced a blowout in its front right tire. Collingsworth had slowed his vehicle to avoid debris on the road when the International Truck struck the Freightliner’s trailer. Fortunately, Collingsworth was unharmed.
The DPS confirmed that the investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing.
