Fatal Afternoon Collision on Highway 101 in Sausalito
SAUSALITO, CA (February 26, 2019) – A tow truck driver was killed when a vehicle lost control and struck him Tuesday afternoon on Highway 101 in Sausalito.
The fatal crash happened around 2:25 p.m. along the southbound lanes on the highway, just north of Spencer Avenue exit.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the tow truck driver was loading a disabled black Toyota Prius onto the bed of the truck, when a silver Chevrolet pickup truck spun out of control and hit the tow truck.
The impact hit the Prius into the tow truck driver and killed him. The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of his family members.
The female driver of the Prius was standing some distance away and was unharmed. The Chevrolet driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Marin General Hospital.
The crash blocked the two right lanes for about two and a half hours.
Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to be factors in the collision. Officials said it appears the crash was weather-related but further investigation is underway.
