3 People Injured after 2-Vehicle Crash on State Route 89 in Chino Valley

Chino Valley, AZ (February 5, 2024) – On Saturday afternoon, 72-year-old Saundra Deiley and 85-year-old Richard Deiley from Chino Valley died in a 2-vehicle crash on State Route 89.

Police and fire crews attended the scene of the collision on State Route 89 and Road 3 South just after 3 p.m. on Saturday, involving a Mercury sedan and a Subaru SUV. 

The sedan’s occupants, 72-year-old Saundra Deiley, the driver, and 85-year-old Richard Deiley from Chino Valley, were critically injured and taken to a hospital, where they later died.

The SUV’s 44-year-old driver and her two small children, also residents of Chino Valley, received hospital treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Chino Valley Police‘s preliminary investigation indicates that the collision occurred when the sedan, traveling westbound on East Road 3, turned left onto the southbound lanes of SR 89 and moved into the path of the northbound SUV. 

The SUV struck the driver’s side door of the sedan. Authorities do not suspect speed or impairment as factors in the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.
