1 Killed and 2 Injured in Accident near Santa Paula Street
SANTA PAULA, CA (September 7, 2018) – A man was killed Friday evening following a two-vehicle crash near Santa Paula Street. The victim was later identified by the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office as 26-year-old Santiago Melchor Reyes of Santa Paula.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place shortly after 9:00 PM. A Toyota Camry, driven by Reyes, was heading north on Briggs Road when it collided with an eastbound Ford Edge.
Reyes sustained critical injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers. Meanwhile, a passenger inside the Camry and the driver of the Ford were transported to Ventura County Medical Center with minor injuries.
The initial investigation suggests that Reyes failed to stop at the stop sign on North Briggs Road. It was also noted that a stop sign was not available on Santa Paula Street. Authorities continue to work on determining other possible contributing factors, and no other information was available.
