18-Month-Old Boy Dies in Modesto Crash, Santiago Martinez Arrested
Modesto, CA (May 22, 2021) – On Friday, an 18-month-old boy died and police arrested Santiago Martinez in a hit-and-run crash on Glenn Avenue.
The fatal crash took place after 5 p.m. near Ustick Road.
Officers said a Toyota sedan, driven by Martinez, was westbound when the boy walked onto the road.
The child was struck but Martinez allegedly continued to drive away.
Meanwhile, nearby witnesses followed the vehicle for about a mile and contacted the driver. Martinez then returned to the accident scene.
Responders took the 18-month-old to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
The officers arrested Martinez on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the accident.
