Male Pedestrian Dies after Crash on Verano Avenue in Sonoma

Sonoma, CA  (January 17, 2023) – Monday night, a 36-year-old Santa Rosa man died in a crash on Verano Avenue and Highway 12.

The fatal crash in Sonoma happened after 8 p.m. on January 16.

CHP said Alvaro Alvalos, 24, of Sonoma was driving a 2019 Toyota Tundra west on Verano Avenue and turned onto Highway 12 when for an “undetermined reason, the truck, and the pedestrian crashed within the south crosswalk.”

The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, Alvalos immediately stopped and remained at the scene while Sonoma Valley Fire Department attended to the pedestrian.

Investigators said speeding, drugs, and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash at this time.

Further investigation into this crash is ongoing.
