Fernando Aguilera Arrested in Deadly DUI Crash on Highway 101 at River Road
SANTA ROSA, CA (March 20, 2019) – One person was killed following a rollover DUI crash late Wednesday evening in Santa Rosa, authorities said.
The fatal crash happened just before 11;00 p.m. on southbound Highway 101 at River Road.
According to the CHP, silver Ford Fusion was heading southbound on the highway when it slammed into the back of a slower moving blue Honda Civic. The impact sent the Honda into the guardrail, before overturning and colliding with a perimeter fence and tree.
Responding Santa Rosa firefighters pronounced the Honda driver dead at the scene. The victim’s name has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the Ford, identified as 31-year-old Fernando Aguilera of Santa Rosa, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of homicide, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony DUI and felony DUI above the legal limit, according to the CHP.
Jail records show that Aguilera was convicted of DUI twice before.
Investigation of this incident is still ongoing.
