Early Morning Collision with Trash Truck on Highway 101 in Santa Rosa Kills One
SANTA ROSA, CA (May 10, 2019) – One person was killed following a head-on crash early Friday morning in Santa Rosa.
The crash happened around 4:44 a.m .on northbound Highway 101 at River Road off-ramp involving a Recology truck and a black 1994 Honda Civic.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the trash truck was heading westbound on River Road and going over an overpass near the southbound Highway 101 exit when the truck driver saw the Honda coming directly at him in the wrong lane.
The Recology driver slammed on his brakes, and the Honda tried to swerve back into the correct lane, but it was too late. The Honda slammed head-on into the oncoming dump truck.
The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was being withheld pending notification of family members.
The driver of the garbage truck was not injured.
