71-Year-Old Bicyclist Hospitalized after Crash on Foxhall Drive

SAN MARCOS, CA (March 12, 2018)– An elderly man was seriously injured in a bicycle-SUV collision on the intersection of Craven Road and Foxhall Drive, Monday morning.

The crash occurred just before 11:00 AM. Witnesses saw the 71-year-old bicyclist veer into the roadway from the bike lane and into the path of a white 2014 Jeep Cherokee. He reportedly lost consciousness as emergency responders transported him to the Palomar Medical Center for treatment.

He suffered major injuries to the head, chest, and pelvis. There is no update on his current condition at this time.

The female driver, described as a juvenile, was unable to steer away from the bicyclist in time to avoid the collision. She called 911 and remained at the scene of the crash. Authorities stated that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be contributing factors in the incident. Anyone with more information is urged to contact Deputy David Arnold Sr. at the San Marcos sheriff’s station.

It is important to always be on the lookout for pedestrians and bicyclists, especially if you are in residential or highly populated areas. As a bicyclist, stay alert, stay in the designated bike lane, and look out for oncoming vehicles.
