Speeding Car Crashes into Big Rig on 880 Freeway in San Leandro Killing its Female Passenger
SAN LEANDRO, CA (February 19, 2019) – Late Tuesday morning, a woman was killed in a Big-Rig Crash on 880 Freeway and Floresta Boulevard. Her name has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
According to authorities, dispatch calls about the accident began around 10:55 a.m. The female passenger was ejected in a speeding 2000 Honda Accord driven by a 20-year-old Oakland man. The vehicle made several unsafe lane changes in the southbound lanes before colliding with a Big Rig.
Due to the impact, the Honda’s front passenger door completely tore off. Hence, resulting in the female passenger being ejected.
Alameda County firefighters responded and attempted to provide life-saving aid to the woman. However, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on scene.
The Honda driver complained of pain and was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley. Moreover, the big-rig driver remained uninjured.
The three right southbound lanes of 880 Freeway were closed for about three hours during cleanup. Evidence from the scene was collected and photographed for preliminary investigation. All lanes were re-opened by 2:20 p.m.
No arrests have been made at this time, but the incident remains under investigation.
