Morning Head-On Crash in San Juan Capistrano Kills One and Seriously Injures Another
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA (April 22, 2019) – A 34-year-old South Gate man was killed following a head-on crash Monday morning in San Juan Capistrano.
The fatal crash happened around 5:39 a.m. on Highway 74 near Caspers Wilderness Park.
A 1999 Dodge Ram and a 2016 Dodge pickup truck collided, leaving severe damage on both vehicles.
When officers arrived on the scene, both vehicles were blocking the eastbound and westbound traffic.
It was determined that the newer pickup truck veered across double yellow lines and collided head-on into the older pickup truck.
The South Gate man driving the older Dodge was killed in the crash. His name has been withheld pending next of kin notification. His 30-year-old passenger suffered major injuries and was taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo in an unknown condition.
The driver in the newer Dodge only sustained minor injuries.
It is unknown if charges has been filed and liability has not yet been determined. The incident is still under investigation.
