Woman Walking from Crashed Pickup Truck Fatally Struck by Car on Highway 101 in San Jose
SAN JOSE, CA (February 10, 2019) – A woman was killed in a pedestrian accident Sunday morning in San Jose, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The fatal incident happened around 6:14 a.m. on southbound Highway 101, just north of 680 Freeway.
According to the CHP, a husband and wife were driving in their pickup truck on the ramp from southbound Highway 101 to northbound 680 Freeway. For unknown reasons, the man lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the concrete side wall.
The husband was calling a tow truck for the disabled pickup when his wife exited the vehicle and began walking down the ramp, CHP officials said.
That was when a Toyota Camry struck the woman, killing her upon impact. Her identity has not yet been released at this time.
Officers arrived a short time later and began shutting the connectors from Highway 101 to 680 Freeway as well as all but one lane of southbound 280 Freeway, which transitions into 680 Freeway.
A traffic alert was issued in the area until a little after 9:00 a.m., when all lanes were re-opened.
The driver of the Camry stayed on scene and cooperated with authorities. Drugs and alcohol were not ruled out as factors in the crash. It was also reported to have been raining and dark at the time of the accident.
Further investigation of this incident is underway.
