Van Involved in Deadly Collision on 880 Freeway in San Jose
SAN JOSE, CA (January 9, 2019) – One person was killed following a traffic collision Wednesday morning in San Jose, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The collision happened around 11:19 a.m. on southbound 880 Freeway at Brokaw Road.
According to an initial report by the CHP, a brown minivan went across lanes and hit the center divider. The van also possibly hit a red vehicle.
Fire crews and paramedics arrived on the scene and located the van’s driver slumped over the vehicle’s wheel. The individual was trapped inside and was reportedly unconscious.
Life-saving measures were performed on the driver, but unsuccessful. The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The first lane of the freeway shut down and traffic was being diverted.
An investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of the fatal crash and to identify possible contributing factors. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
