Rider Fatally Run Over by Rock Hauler on 280 Freeway in San Jose
SAN JOSE, CA (April 17, 2019) – A motorcyclist was killed after he was run over by a rock hauler Wednesday afternoon, in San Jose.
The fatal crash happened around 3:15 p.m. on southbound Freeway, just South of Race Street.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist was splitting lanes when he fell into the third lane from the left. A fully loaded double trailer rock hauler in the third lane then ran over the rider.
The rider suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity once it has been confirmed and next of kin is notified.
The CHP closed three of the four lanes while they worked on the scene. Lanes were reopened by 5:50 p.m.
It is still unclear clear what caused the motorcyclist to fall. An investigation is still ongoing.
