Fatal Morning Crash on Gilman Springs Road Leads to 5-Hour Closure
SAN JACINTO, CA (January 30, 2019) – One person was killed following a fiery head-on collision Wednesday morning in San Jacinto, authorities said.
The fatal collision happened around 11:00 a.m. at Gilman Springs Road and Highway 79.
According to an initial report, a white Dodge Durango SUV was heading westbound when for unknown reasons, the driver allowed the vehicle to veer onto the right shoulder. The driver then over-corrected and lost control, crashing the car into a tractor-trailer that was traveling in the opposite direction. The impact caused the SUV to catch fire.
A coroner was called to the scene and confirmed one fatality as a result of the accident. The identity of the victim was not immediately available pending next of kin notification.
Gilman Springs Road was closed from the scene near Bridge Street to Highway 79 for nearly five hours. The road was re-opened just after 4:00 p.m.
No additional information was provided at this time. Further investigation is underway.
