Woman Fatally Injured in Pedestrian Accident on 80 Freeway near 5th Street
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (March 4, 2018) – A woman was hit by several cars and died on 80 Freeway near the 5th Street on-ramp, early Sunday morning.
According to Officer Vu Williams, the woman was walking at around 5:45 AM on eastbound 80 Freeway near the 4th Street exit and 5th Street, when she was struck by a Ford Escape. Officers have reason to believe that she was run over by several other cars after the initial collision, but they have not yet confirmed why the woman was walking on the freeway.
The driver of the Ford remained at the scene of the accident and was cooperated with investigators. Authorities determined that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash. No arrests have been carried out.
A traffic alert was issued for the area as lanes were closed for investigation. Lanes 2-4 were shut down for about three hours and reopened around 8:00 AM. Further details about the incident and the identity of the woman were not immediately available.
