Afternoon Crash on 5 Freeway near Imperial Avenue Leaves One Dead
SAN DIEGO, CA (February 25, 2019) – One person was killed following a car accident Monday afternoon on 5 Freeway in the East Village, authorities said.
The fatal crash happened around 1:06 p.m. on the southbound side of the freeway at Imperial Avenue.
Details of how the crash occurred were not immediately available, but the involved vehicle was completely wrecked from the impact. One occupant, believe to be the driver of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash left all southbound lanes of 5 Freeway blocked for a time, prompting the CHP to issue a traffic alert for the area. As of 1:35 p.m., one lane had been reopened.
Information on the victim’s identity has not yet been released. The incident remains under investigation.
