SAN DIEGO, CA – 90-Year-Old Woman Killed in Car Crash on Pomerado Road

One Killed and Five Injured in Three-Car Collision on Intersection of Pomerado and Willow Creek Roads

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (February 18, 2018) – A three-car collision occurred on the intersection of Pomerado and Willow Creek Roads, around 1:30 PM on Sunday.
 
An 18-year-old man was driving northwest, when he swerved and crash head-on with a white Chevrolet Sonic that was carrying four seniors, according to the San Diego Police Department. One woman was trapped inside and had to be extricated by fire personnel.
 
A black Range Rover was also involved in the accident on the Avenue of the Nations, outside of Thurgood Marshall Middle School. Both occupants sustained minor injuries, and were treated on-site, as was the BMW driver. At least five ambulances arrived at the scene of the crash alongside police officials.
 
All four occupants in the small white hatchback were taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. A 90-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead around 4:45 PM. The other three occupants of the car were taken to the hospital with serious injuries; their current condition is unknown.
 
The young man stayed on the scene of the crash and cooperated with officials. He stated that there was a mechanical issue with his car during the time of the crash.
 
Drugs and alcohol do not seem to be contributing factors in this fatal accident.
 
The roadway leading into Alliant University campus and Thurgood Marshall Middle School was closed until around 6 PM that same day. Investigation is still ongoing at this time. Authorities believe that the BMW driver may have taken a curve too fast, resulting in losing control of the car. No other information has been released at this time.
