Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Crash on 5 Freeway in San Clemente
SAN CLEMENTE, CA (March 7, 2019) – A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash Thursday morning in San Clemente, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal incident happened around 6:30 a.m. on southbound 5 Freeway at Cristianitos Road.
An initial report indicated a body lying in the southbound lanes of the freeway. The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The on-ramp from Cristianitos Road to southbound 5 Freeway were shut down while authorities worked on the scene.
All the affected stretches of roadway were re-opened shortly before noon.
At this time, authorities are still on the lookout for the suspect vehicle and driver. Anyone with information about the case was asked to call the CHP at (760) 643-4300.
