74-Year-Old Motorcyclist Fatally Injured in Collision near Highway 49
SAN ANDREAS, CA (May 9, 2018) – A 74-year-old Stockton woman lost her life in a motorcycle collision on Highway 12, on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly collision happened around 12 PM on the 1970 block of Highway 12, off Highway 49 near San Andreas. A 2006 Suzuki motorcycle, driven by an unnamed woman, was heading east on Highway 12 following a 1999 Ford pickup truck, driven by 26-year-old Jacob Ham.
Ham slowed his vehicle to prepare for a left turn into the driveway of the “Ham Ranch,” waiting for oncoming traffic to subside. The motorcyclist following behind failed to observe the halting pickup truck on time. She was able to use the brakes and turned left to avoid the collision, but the bike still hit the left corner of the truck.
The woman sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Ham was reportedly unharmed from the collision.
Affected areas on Highway 12 were shut down for about an hour and a half while officials investigated. A detour through Mokelumne Hill was used. In their initial investigation, authorities determined that alcohol or drugs are not contributing factors in the collision. It was also noted that the woman was equipped with an approved full-face helmet when the crash occurred. No additional information is available to the public at this time.
We offer our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased victim. May she rest in peace.
