Samantha Renteria of Costa Mesa Killed in Highway 74 Collision [Perris, CA]

Perris, CA (August 22, 2023) – On Sunday, Samantha Renteria, 23, of Costa Mesa and a 20-year-old Lake Elsinore man, were killed in a Highway 74 collision.

The fatal collision took place at 11:30 p.m. west of Seventh Street.

According to officer Mike Lassig, Renteria was westbound on the freeway in her 2021 Nissan Sentra while the other driver was eastbound in his 2008 Honda CRV. Both of them were traveling at unconfirmed speeds.

“For unknown reasons at this time, the driver of the Honda allowed it to travel across painted double yellow lines,” Lassig said. “The Honda entered westbound traffic and collided head-on with the Nissan. Both vehicles came to rest on their wheels, blocking lanes.”

Riverside County Fire Department paramedics responded to the crash scene within 10 minutes and declared Samantha Renteria and the Lake Elsinore man, dead.

The authorities said they are still investigating the collision and it was unclear if the inclement weather during that day played a part in the deadly accident.
