Driver Dies after Pickup Truck Crashes on 32nd Avenue in Blythe
BLYTHE, CA (November 20, 2019) – A man died following a rollover crash Wednesday afternoon in Blythe, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash happened around 2:56 p.m. on eastbound 32nd Avenue, just east of Rannells Boulevard.
CHP officials said a 2002 Toyota Tacoma made an unsafe turn to the right when it veered off the road and crossed over a dirt shoulder. It then traveled down a steep embankment and rammed into a patch of brush.
The pickup truck then overturned into a drainage ditch on the south side of 32nd Avenue.
As a result, the pickup truck driver suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. The Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies identified him as 59-year-old Salvador Jimenez Ortega.
CHP officials said Ortega was a Blythe resident, but the coroner’s office listed him as a resident of Mexicali, Mexico.
This fatal crash is still under investigation. For further information regarding this collision please contact the CHP Blythe Area Public Information Officer, Officer J. Girard (#17353) at 760-922-6141.
