San Diego Detectives Ryan Park & Jamie Huntley-Park Killed in Interstate 5 Accident
San Diego, CA (June 05, 2021) – On Friday, husband and wife, both detectives, Ryan Park and Jamie Huntley-Park, were killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 5.
The fatal crash took place just before 10:30 a.m. near Dairy Mart Road, near San Ysidro.
Apparently, a northbound Honda Civic in the southbound lanes of the freeway crashed with a Ford sedan.
Just after the crash, the Civic burst into flames and its driver died.
Similarly, the two officers riding the Ford also died.
It’s unclear whether the officers were off-duty or on-duty during the incident. The authorities confirmed that the Ford sedan involved was a city-issued vehicle.
The two officers were married detectives who met at the police academy. They were both hired to SDPD in 2012, and were promoted to detective together in 2018.
Moreover, the female wrong-way driver was traveling at speeds of about 90 mph at the time of the deadly crash.
The individual was identified by her husband as 58-year-old Sandra Daniels. Darrell Daniels says he believes his wife’s blood sugar got too low, as he does not think this was an intentional collision.
Meanwhile, the investigators are still looking into the possible cause of the accident.
They said it still is not clear where the wrong-way driver entered the freeway, and whether speed or alcohol was a factor in the incident.
We at Sweet Lawyers would like to send our sympathies to the bereaved of Ryan Park and Jamie Huntley-Park. May you find courage during this time of sorrow.
