Rufino Vasquez Lopez of Gilroy Involved in Highway 152 Fatal Crash [San Benito County, CA]

San Benito County, CA (January 3, 2024) – Rufino Vasquez Lopez, a 48-year-old Gilroy man, was involved in a DUI collision on Highway 152 that killed a 45-year-old woman Monday.

The authorities received the fatal crash report at 12:44 a.m. on eastbound freeway west of Lovers Lane.

Investigating officers said Lopez was driving a 2016 Nissan Rogue on Lover’s Lane and turning left onto Highway 152. 

At the same time, a 60-year-old San Jose woman was driving an eastbound 2017 Chevy Silverado on the freeway approaching Lovers Lane.

CHP officers said the Nissan drove from the westbound lane and into the eastbound lane of Highway 152 and collided head-on with the Chevy Silverado.

The Nissan’s passenger, a 45-year-old Gilroy woman, succumbed to her injuries. 

Moreover, the Chevy driver sustained major injures and her two passengers in the suffered minor injuries.

Investigators said alcohol played a role in this fatal collision and arrested Rufino Vasquez Lopez.
