19-Year-Old Autistic Man from Victorville Fatally Struck near Adelanto Road
ADELANTO, CA (May 2, 2018) – An autistic teenager was struck and killed by a car on Air Expressway near Adelanto Road, early Wednesday morning. The victim was identified as Rudy Gonzalez of Victorville.
The Young man had been reported missing by his family on Tuesday afternoon around 1 PM, from his home on the 15400 block of Ferndale Road. Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Victorville office searched for him with help from the Sheriff’s Aviation Division and a K-9 unit.
They searched throughout the afternoon and the evening, but were unsuccessful.
At 3:49 AM on Wednesday, Victorville Sheriff’s officials received a call from a motorist that believed they had hit a pedestrian in the road. Authorities arrived at the scene and confirmed that the injured man was Gonzalez. He sustained major injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. He had been walking along Air Expressway near Adelanto Road.
The Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is currently handling the investigation.
