MERCED, CA (January 8, 2020) – Two people sustained injuries in a car collision on Winton Way on January 6.
The authorities came to the scene at around 11:20 a.m. near the intersection of North Winton Way and Mercedes Avenue in Merced County.
Officer Eric Zuniga revealed that 18-year-old Ruben Alvarez of Atwater traveled east on Mercedes Avenue in a 1999 Honda Civic. When Alvarez slowed down at a stop sign, he then drove into the intersection and didn’t yield the right of way to a northbound box truck on North Winton Way driven by 60-year-old Carmen Ramirez of Winton.
The box truck then crashed with the Honda before both vehicles stopped on the front lawn of a nearby home.
An ambulance took Ruben Alvarez to Modesto Memorial Hospital with major injuries. Meanwhile, another ambulance transported Carmen Ramirez to Mercy Medical Center in Merced for a complaint of pain.
The authorities ruled out drugs or alcohol as a factor in the crash.
