Rosalva Fierro Fatally Hurt after Long Beach Two-Vehicle Crash
LONG BEACH, CA (June 9, 2019) – A woman died and five others were injured after a two-vehicle crash in Long Beach on Friday, June 7.
Officials identified the deceased as 49-year-old Rosalva Fierro, of Long Beach.
The accident happened in the Bixby Knolls area at around 10:25 p.m. Dispatchers arrived at Del Amo Boulevard and Orange Avenue shortly after.
Officers found out that the 20-year-old driver of a 2018 Nissan truck traveled eastbound on Del Amo Boulevard. After that, he sped up in an attempt to make a light phasing to red at Orange Avenue. The Nissan then broadsided a 2003 GMC SUV, which entered the intersection moving northbound on Orange Avenue.
Police discovered Fierro unconscious in the driver’s seat of the SUV. Police said that she died at the scene due to the impact of the collision.
The five others, three men and two boys, were occupants in the truck. They were transported to a hospital with a variety of injuries for further treatment.
All six wore their seatbelts at the time of the incident. Both drivers had valid driver’s licenses.
It wasn’t immediately determined if drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision. However, the driver of the Nissan gave a blood sample at the hospital, according to the police.
