San Jose, CA (February 6, 2024) On Saturday afternoon, 30-year-old Rosa Magaly Zapata of Turlock died in a horrific single-vehicle crash on Piedmont Road.
According to the San Jose Police Department (SJPD), the fatal crash happened at about 5:41 p.m. in the area of Piedmont Road and Sierra Road.
Reports say that the driver of a northbound white 2006 BMW sedan allowed the vehicle to leave the road and went over the east curb line of Piedmont Road and collides with a light pole and a tree.
Officials say that Zapata was a passenger on the vehicle, she was rushed to the hospital, were she ultimately succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the unidentified male driver exited the vehicle and fled the scene before authorities arrived.
SJPD is investigating the fatal single-vehicle crash and are actively searching for the suspect driver who remains at large.
