Esteban Jimenez Arrested in Fatal DUI Crash on Highway 101 in San Jose
SAN JOSE, CA (December 1, 2019) – A mother and a son were killed following a DUI crash early Sunday morning in San Jose.
The crash happened around 4:10 a.m. on northbound Highway 101 near 280 Freeway and 680 Freeway.
According to reports, a Dodge Charger was speeding on the highway when it struck the rear of a Nissan Rogue. The impact caused the Nissan to spin out of control and hit a guardrail before coming to rest on the dirt divider.
As a result, the rear passenger in the Nissan, 61-year-old Rosa Garza, died at the scene.
The Nissan driver, 34-year-old Francisco Garza, and a second passenger were taken to Regional Medical Center of San Jose. Tragically, Francisco did not survive and was pronounced dead at 5:05 a.m. The second patient was treated for moderate injuries.
The two deceased victims were a mother and son. Both were San Jose residents.
The driver of the Dodge, 21-year-old Esteban Aguilar Jimenez of San Jose, and his three passengers were also hospitalized with minor to moderate injuries.
Jimenez was later arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI, according to the CHP.
Officials closed the Highway 101 ramp until around 7:50 a.m. while they investigated the incident.
