Margarita Garnica-Sanchez Airlifted after Vehicle Collision near Bottle Rock Road

KELSEYVILLE, CA (May 10, 2018) – On Thursday afternoon, a solo-vehicle crash on Highway 29 claimed the life of a woman and injured another.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened at about 5:30 AM. A 2010 Honda Civic, driven by 40-year-old Margarita Garnica-Sanchez with 59-year-old Rosa Covarrubias as her passenger, was heading northbound on Highway 29 at an undetermined speed when the vehicle drifted into the southbound lane.

Garnica-Sanchez tried to return to the northbound lanes and hastily turned to the right, overcorrecting. The impact of the collision caused the vehicle to overturn and go down the embankment before it came to rest on its wheels in a drainage gully.

REACH air ambulance arrived at the scene to fly Garnica-Sanchez to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital after sustaining major injuries. Covarrubias suffered from life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

In the initial investigation, it was determined that both women were secured in a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Authorities have also ruled out drugs and alcohol as contributing factors. No additional information regarding the crash is available to the public at this time, during the investigation.

Sincerest sympathies to the family and friends of Rosa Covarrubias. We wish the bereaved loved ones courage and comfort during this trying time. May she rest in peace.
