57-Year-Old Riverside Woman Fatally Struck by Vehicle near Buena Vista Drive
KERNVILLE, CA (August 3, 2018) – A woman was killed Friday evening after she was struck by a vehicle on Sierra Way. The deceased victim was later identified as 57-year-old Riverside resident Ronda Jean Block.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 8:45 PM near Buena Vista Drive. Block was crossing Sierra Way when a northbound pickup hit her. It is unclear whether or not the female pedestrian was walking in a crosswalk at the time of the crash.
The victim was transported to the Kern Valley Healthcare District for treatment and evaluation. Unfortunately, Block succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Meanwhile, the unidentified driver of the pickup remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. It was determined that the driver swerved in an attempt to avoid the pedestrian, but the right front of the vehicle still struck Block. Authorities also noted that the surrounding areas were not well-lit at the time of the accident.
No further details have been provided to the public at this time.
We extend our sincerest sympathies to the family and friends of Ronda Jean Block. Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with her bereaved loved ones during this trying time. May she rest in peace.
