Ronald Antoni Arrested after Fleeing Police on Highway 53 [Clearlake, CA]

1 DUI Driver Detained in Clearlake near Olympic Drive

 
CLEARLAKE, CA (February 21, 2020) – Thursday night, authorities arrested 65-year-old Ronald Antoni of Clearlake, after a police pursuit on Highway 53 around 9:20 p.m.
 
A patrolling deputy in the area heard a radio broadcast related to a possible intoxicated driver in a green Honda Civic. The deputy then noticed the Honda making a U-turn at the intersection of Olympic Drive and Highway 53 shortly after.
 
Antoni then pulled off the roadway as the officer pulled him over. However, as the deputy approached the vehicle on its passenger side, Antoni fled south on Highway 53.
 
The deputy chased the Honda but did not activate his lights until Antoni made an illegal U-turn on Polk Avenue. Then, the deputy attempted to stop Antoni. However, he continued traveling north on the freeway.
 
Antoni sped past several vehicles over double-yellow lines, at speeds of over 80 miles per hour. He then made another U-turn in the area of Ogulin Canyon Road and crossed the double-yellow lines into oncoming traffic.
 
The Honda later turned onto 18th Avenue and entered the Adventist Health Emergency Room parking lot. There, he was finally stopped and detained.
 
According to Antoni, he did not stop because he was afraid and rushing to the hospital. Additionally, Antoni also said he consumed alcoholic beverages and recently smoked methamphetamine.
 
Antoni was eventually booked into custody at the Lake County Jail on charges of evading, reckless driving, resisting and DUI. His bail was set at $35,000.
