70-Year-Old Manteca Man Fatally Injured in Fiery Collision near Disch Road
LOCKEFORD, CA (August 22, 2018) – A man was killed Wednesday morning after a head-on crash on Highway 88. The deceased victim was later identified as 70-year-old Ronald Lee Stucker of Manteca.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 10:30 AM, just west of Disch Road. Reports stated that Stucker was driving his Ford F-150 eastbound on Highway 88 at an unknown speed.
At the same time, a big rig heading heading westbound was traveling at approximately 55 mph. For unknown reasons, the Ford crossed directly in front of the big rig and crashed into it head-on.
Due to the impact of the collision, the elderly man was partially ejected from his pickup truck. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene, due to severe injuries. The driver of the big rig suffered moderate injuries. It is unclear if he was hospitalized or not.
As a result of the crash, both vehicles became engulfed in flames. For most of the morning, officers closed down part of the highway for one-way traffic, in order to clean up diesel fuel that had spilled onto the road.
It was not yet determined if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision. An investigation is ongoing at this time.
We send our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Ronald Lee Stucker. We wish them strength and comfort as they grieve for their loss. May he rest in peace.
