Speeding Car Crashes on Highway 905 in San Diego Killing the Driver and Injuring

SAN DIEGO, CA (January 7, 2020) – A driver died and his five teenage passengers were injured following a car accident Tuesday evening in Otay Mesa, authorities said.
The crash happened around 9:15 p.m. on westbound Highway 905 near Beyer Boulevard.
According to the CHP, the driver was speeding when he lost control of the Chrysler 300 and struck a guardrail. After hitting the guardrail, the car continued out of control before coming to rest facing the wrong way on the on-ramp.
As a result, the driver was ejected from the car and died at the scene. Authorities identified him as Rolando Mora Labandelo, 21, of San Ysidro.
His five passengers were injured. They were two female teens, ages 15 and 17, and three male teens, ages 17, 19, and 18. Medics took all of them to UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest. The severity of their injuries was unknown.
CHP officials are still investigating the factors involved in the crash.
