Driver Dies in Yoakum County 3-Vehicle Crash
Yoakum County, TX (April 13, 2024) – 47-year-old Roland Chatham and 34-year-old Guadalupe Manual Avila were injured in a Highway 83 fatal crash Friday morning.
It was about 7:25 a.m. when 38-year-old Victoria Denise McKenzie of Plains was southbound on FM) 769 toward the intersection with Highway 83 in a 2017 Buick Envision. Troopers said she failed to follow the stop sign and hit Chatham driving a 2005 Peterbilt truck tractor towing a 1977 Flatbed trailer.
The Buick struck the passenger side of the Peterbilt at the diesel tank, causing it to swerve into the eastbound lane of the freeway.
Afterward, the truck separated from the trailer, and the trailer then hit Avila’s 2017 Chevrolet Silverado on the driver’s side.
Responding officers declared McKenzie deceased at the scene while Avila and Chatham were transported to Yoakum County Hospital.
