Roger Haynie and Eliva Soto Dead After Crash on Nogales Highway in Tucson

Tucson, AZ (September 15, 2024) – On Friday night, 66-year-old Roger Haynie and 72-year-old Eliva Soto died in a crash on Nogales Highway.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department reported that two people lost their lives in a Friday night accident on the Nogales Highway near Felix Road. 

Neither of the individuals, who were in separate vehicles, was wearing a seatbelt.

Roger Haynie, 66, died at the scene. He had been driving a 2002 Ford Explorer southbound on South Nogales Highway when his vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe.

Eliva Soto, 72, also died at the scene. She was a passenger in the Hyundai. Another passenger suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for further treatment.

“The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Detectives are working diligently to gather more evidence, interview witnesses, and determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident,” stated PCSD.
