Rogel Aguilera-Mederos Arrested after Fatal Semi-Truck Collision
LAKEWOOD, CO (April 28, 2019) – Four people died in a terrible fiery crash involving 28 vehicles on a Colorado highway on Thursday, April 25.
The accident happened at around 4:30 p.m. when a semi-trailer traveled at a high rate of speed on 70 Freeway. Then it collided into several stopped vehicles during a traffic jam.
Four semis and 24 vehicles were part of the incident, according to officials.
Four people died and six people were taken to hospitals in unknown conditions after the crash.
Authorities charged the 23-year-old semi driver Rogel Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos, of Texas, with four counts of vehicular homicide.
There was no evidence of drugs or alcohol as factors in the collision. There is also no indication he intentionally caused the incident, officials said.
Lakewood Police spokesman Ty Countryman said that Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos did not stop his vehicle which ended up slamming with several cars resulting into more fiery collisions. It took about five hours for West Metro Fire Rescue to put out the flames.
Countryman said the crash could end up being one of the worst in the city’s history.
