Rodrigo Villarreal Dies in Tragic Collision on FM 732 [San Benito, TX]

San Benito, TX (January 5, 2024) On Wednesday afternoon, 59-year-old Rodrigo Villarreal of San Benito died after a collision between a Honda and a bicycle on on FM 732.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal bicycle collision happened around 1:16 p.m. on FM 732 north of US 281.

Reports say that the crash involved a northbound black Honda Civic and a northbound bicyclist.

Authorities say that the Honda struck Villarreal from behind and caused the bicyclist to go airborne and land on the windshield of the Honda.

Officials say that Villarreal was taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

DPS says that distracted driving was a contributing factor in the fatal crash.

Authorities are investigating the fatal bicycle collision and have not released further information at this time.
