1 Dead in Long Beach Auto Accident on Atlantic Avenue and Anaheim Street
LONG BEACH, CA (February 22, 2024) – Tuesday night, Rodger Lee Watkins died in a devastating two-vehicle crash on Atlantic Avenue killed 1 person.
The incident occurred at around 11:50 p.m. on Atlantic Avenue and Anaheim Street. According to reports, a man was trapped inside a 2012 Ford Focus.
Reports said that 60-year-old Watkins of Long Beach succumbed to injuries at the scene.
Then, the preliminary investigation said that a 2012 Lexus IS250 was driving north on the Atlantic approaching Anaheim. Then, the Focus was driving east on Anaheim approaching the intersection.
“The Lexus broadsided the Ford in the middle of the intersection causing the Ford to lose control,” police added. “The Ford struck a traffic signal light and an abandoned building on the northeast corner of the intersection. The Lexus lost control and struck a bus bench on the northeast corner of the intersection.”
The Lexus driver, a 31-year-old Long Beach resident, was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. However, the person’s identity remained undisclosed.
“Speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving are being investigated as potential factors in this collision,” police said.

At this time, the events that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
