Robin Roman Struck and Injured by Vehicle While Standing Outside Car on Highway 99
ATWATER, CA (July 19, 2019) – Officials have identified the woman who was hit by a car while she was standing on the shoulder of Highway 99.
The California Highway Patrol reported that 63-year-old Roman Rae Roman of Turlock had run out of fuel and was standing outside of a 2019 Nissan Versa at about 9:25 p.m. Wednesday. She was on the right shoulder of southbound Highway 99, north of Applegate Road.
At the same time, a 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck was southbound on Highway 99 in the right lane. It drifted to the right shoulder for inexplicable reasons and rear-ended the Nissan.
One of the vehicles subsequently hit Roman during the collision. The pickup truck continued heading south, overturned, and came to rest on the right shoulder.
As a result of the collision, Roman suffered major injuries including head trauma and abrasions to her right arm. A helicopter airlifted her to Memorial North Hospital in Modesto.
On the other hand, the Chevrolet driver, 54-year-old Adonay Diaz Ascencio of Chowchilla, complained of back pain. First responders took him to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for an evaluation.
However, further investigation of the collision continues.
