76-Year-Old Richland Woman Injured in Multiple-Vehicle Accident near Duportail Street
RICHLAND, WA (April 13, 2018) – On Friday morning, one person was injured in a three-car pileup on Highway 240.
Washington State Patrol troopers and Richland Police officers responded to the scene at around 7:15 AM with traffic backed-up in the area.
According to reports, 20-year-old Arthur Y Baranovsky of Kennewick swept across several traffic lanes. He was traveling west in the far left lane on the highway when, according to him, a pickup crowded his lane. To avoid the truck, he crossed to other traffic lanes where his Chevrolet sedan collided with another vehicle driven by 39-year-old Richland resident, Nitin Bharadwaj. Bharadwaj’s car was waiting to take a turn onto Duportail Street.
The impact of the crash sent Bharadwaj’s vehicle to right, while Baranovsky was sent to the left where there was oncoming traffic.
A Chrysler Sedan, driven by 76-year-old Roberta S Lyons of Richland, was heading east when the Chevy entered her lane. The two vehicles collided, leaving Lyons with a broken leg. Both Baranovsky and Bharadwaj were reportedly unharmed.
All three cars involved were totaled in the accident. Authorities are still reviewing the evidence and statements for any possible charges. No other information is available at the moment.
