Cosme Hernandez Cited for Negligent Driving after Vehicle Crash on State Highway 14
VANCOUVER, WA (April 10, 2018) – A driver was hospitalized with multiple injuries after a car accident on Highway 14, early Tuesday evening.
Washington State Patrol reports stated that 46-year-old Robert W Stevens of Camas and 38-year-old Casey M Malasig of Vancouver, were traveling east on State Highway 14 at around 5:20 PM.
Heavy traffic ahead of them caused them to slow down. The tractor-trailer behind them, driven by 56-year-old Cosme A Hernandez of Prosser, failed to stop on time and crashed into the two vehicle. Stevens’ 2007 Toyota Sequoia was hit first, causing the vehicle to rear-end Malasig’s Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
Stevens suffered injuries and was rushed to the PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for the treatment. His condition is unknown as of this moment. Both Hernandez and Malasig are reportedly unharmed from the incident. Stevens’ SUV was totaled in the crash, while the semi-truck and the Silverado were driven from the scene, despite the damage both vehicles sustained.
All three drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision, and neither was impaired by drugs or alcohol. Troopers are considering speed, unsafe lane change, and tailgating as the main causes of the collision. Authorities cited Hernandez for second-degree negligent driving. No other information is available at the moment.
