50-Year-Old Robert Etta Fatally Injured in Stolen Truck Crash on Carnegie Road [Butte County, CA]

Butte County, CA (December 12, 2024) – 50-year-old Robert Etta was killed following a stolen truck crash on Carnegie Road early Monday morning.

It was around 2 a.m. on December 9 when Butte County Sheriff’s Officer received a report from Robert Etta that his truck was stolen near Crescent Drive in Magalia.

Officers said Etta reported to the authorities that he was in the back of his truck and was requesting assistance from the police.

Investigators said that the dispatcher remained on the line with Etta as the officers responded and that the dispatcher heard a loud crash over the 911 call.

BCSO located the vehicle on Carnegie Road and determined that the truck had been in a crash and caught fire which spread to nearby vegetation.

Subsequently, the medical team performed life-saving measures to Etta but he was declared deceased at the scene.

Deputies said Etta had jumped into the back of the truck and tried to stop it from being stolen by the juvenile suspect.

The juvenile was treated at a local hospital and was later booked into the Butte County Juvenile Hall for manslaughter.
