46-Year-Old Clovis Motorcyclist Dies after High-Speed Pursuit near North West Avenue
FRESNO, CA (October 17, 2018) – A man was killed in a motorcycle crash early Wednesday morning following a high-speed pursuit in Central Fresno. The deceased victim was later identified as 46-year-old Robert Cooper, a resident of Clovis.
According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, the chase started shortly after midnight at the intersection of Van Ness Avenue and Gettysburg Avenue. The motorcyclist refused to pull over and continued traveling at a high rate of speed.
A short time later, the Fresno Police Department helicopter “Air 1” took over the pursuit. That was when Cooper slammed into a fence near East McKinley Avenue and North West Avenue. The impact of the crash fatally injured the motorcyclist, who was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers.
An investigation is being handled by the Fresno Police Department to determine the cause of the crash and to identify possible contributing factors. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
