Passenger Robert Clark Injured in Deadly Crash on Highway 44 [Redding, CA]

Redding Woman Dies in Highway 44 DUI Crash

Redding, CA (August 30, 2024) – Passengers Robert Clark, 59, and Ines Bruno, 37, were injured in a deadly vehicle crash on Highway 44 early Thursday morning.

It was before 1 a.m. when the deadly fiery collision happened between the Old Oregon Trail and Stillwater Road exits on SR-44 East.

Responding officers located a Chevrolet Equinox in flames and the fire had spread to vegetation nearby.  The Redding Fire Department was able to get the fire out in 10 minutes.

Upon investigation, the authorities determined the vehicle had left the roadway and crashed into trees before it started a fire.

A 64-year-old Redding woman in the front passenger seat was pinned and despite the rescuers’ efforts, she sadly died in the fire.

The three other occupants of the vehicle were passengers Robert Clark, Ines Bruno, and the driver, were taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding with major injuries.

The driver, Phillip Applegate, 58, was suspected to be under the influence of drugs and was later arrested.

Meanwhile, the authorities withheld the name of the deceased pending notification of kin
