Rider Dies after Crashing into Guardrail on 91 Freeway in Riverside
RIVERSIDE, CA (March 12, 2019) – A man was killed following a motorcycle accident Tuesday afternoon on 91 Freeway in Riverside.
The crash happened around 2:24 p.m. on eastbound 91 Freeway, just west of University Avenue.
According to CHP, a 40-year-old Riverside man was riding his Suzuki motorcycle eastbound on 91 Freeway. Soon after, he abruptly turned from the middle-right lane to the off-ramp toward University Avenue.
He then crossed the gore point, the space between the freeway and the off-ramp, crashing into the guardrail in the gore point. The impact ejected him from his bike, CHP officials said.
First responders used CCTV camera systems to locate the rider. The victim’s lifeless body was eventually found near the beginning of the University Avenue off-ramp.
Callers soon found the rider. Good Samaritans told emergency dispatchers they had located a significant amount of blood on the roadway. In addition, they followed a blood trail that led them to the victim.
The victim sustained major traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released pending notification of his family members.
It is unknown if speed, drugs and/or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
