59-Year-Old Bicyclist Dies after Crash with Minivan in Rio Linda
RIO LINDA, CA (May 12, 2019) – A bicyclist was killed in a traffic collision with a minivan Sunday evening in Rio Linda.
The collision happened around 7:23 p.m., at Elkhorn Boulevard. Authorities arrived near Cherry Lane shortly after receiving multiple dispatch calls.
According to reports, a westbound blue Toyota minivan was driving through a green light. Meanwhile, the bicyclist entered the roadway via the Sacramento Northern Bike Trail, and ran a red signal when they collided.
The bicyclist was later identified as a 59-year-old man from Sacramento. He was pronounced dead on scene due to the impact of the collision. His name has not yet been released pending family notification.
The driver, a 43-year-old Clovis resident, remained on scene and cooperated with authorities.
No arrests have been made at this time, and drugs and alcohol are not suspected as factors in the collision. Further investigation of this incident is currently underway.
