Riders Injured in Motorcycle Crash on Avenal Cutoff Road [Handord, CA]

Hanford, CA (September 9, 2023) – On Thursday, a man and a woman were injured following a motorcycle crash on Avenal Cutoff Road.

The authorities responded to the crash scene at about 8 p.m. north of Kent Avenue.

Investigators said a Ford driver was northbound on Avenal Cutoff Road in the northbound lane at about 70 miles per hour. 

At the same time, a 2000 Pure Steel motorcycle with a man and a woman were southbound on the Avenal Cutoff Road in the southbound lane at an unknown speed. 

According to CHP,  the Ford merged into the southbound lane directly into the path of the motorcycle. Due to the Ford’s close distance between the Pure Steel and the Ford, the motorcycle rider was unable to prevent the collision.

As a result, the left side of the Ford struck the left side of the motorcycle causing it to overturn. The man and the woman riding the motorcycle were ejected.

The motorcycle and the two riders left the west roadway edge and slid on the shoulder where they rested. 

The Ford continued in a north before coming and rested on the east shoulder. 

CHP said both riders were wearing helmets when the collision happened. Officers do not consider drugs and/or alcohol as a factor in this accident.
