Rider Fatally Injured in Bellevue Bicycle Accident on 8th Street at 145th Avenue
BELLEVUE, WA (September 25, 2019) – A 72-year-old rider died after a bicycle accident on 8th Street on Sunday, September 22.
The crash happened at about 7 p.m. when a van traveling west along SE 8th Street at 145th Avenue SE struck the cyclist moving in the same direction. According to Joe Nault with Bellevue police, the force of the incident sent the cyclist into the van’s windshield.
Paramedics rushed the cyclist to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition. He later died from his sustained injuries on Monday, police stated.
The 28-year-old driver of the van was not hurt and stayed at the scene. He cooperated with the investigation, Nault stated.
Police are still investigating what caused the incident.
